Large Language Models (LLMs) will be complemented by Large Process Models (LPMs) and Large Action Models (LAMs)\, so that generative neural models not only predict what to say or visualize next\, but also what to do next. \n\n\n\n\n\nBecause LPMs and LAMs are trained on data lakes of process specifications and action sequences\, they can predict which plan to take based on a given task and thus can execute the task from start to completion\, creating more agency and autonomy in smart factories. LxM technologies avoid the effort of manually coding active digital twins\, but are able to code a significant portion of them automatically based on neural transformers. \n\n\n\n\n\nAlthough deep learning is the most powerful learning method developed to date\, it has already reached its inherent limits in many industrial application domains and must be combined with various symbolic approaches in new system architectures. This leads to hybrid LxM (x=L\,P\, or M) technologies that use holonic multiagent architectures for combining neural approaches with symbolic reasoning technologies such as constraint solving\, physics-based simulation and terminological reasoning in knowledge graphs. \n\n\n\n\n\nWe present and discuss our new roadmap for the next decade of research and innovation for Industrie 4.0 from 2024 to 2034. Some self-appointed “experts” have proposed on the EU level the new term “Industry 5.0”. But this is neither necessary nor helpful as it wrongly suggests that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is complete. As a founding director of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and in his role as its long-time CEO and scientific director\, he has developed DFKI into one of the world’s largest research institutions in this field.Together with Professor Henning Kagermann (Ex-CEO of SAP) and Professor Lukas (German Government) he coined the “Industie 4.0” concept for the 4th industrial revolution. In 2011\, they published the first paper about Industrie 4.0. The corresponding tools\, often referred to as “solvers”\, find many applications in areas such as hardware verification (chip design)\, software verification (program correctness) or automation of math. We will also discuss how machine learning and\, in particular\, neural networks enter the picture of the development of such solvers\, able to automatically help discover new guidance heurstics\, so necessary for fighting the inherent combinatorial explosion. His work focuses on developing automation and control systems for manufacturing and broader applications of digital systems within industrial supply chains. \n\n\n\nHis current research emphasizes distributed intelligent industrial automation\, low-cost approaches to digital industrial solutions\, and resilient and reconfigurable systems in manufacturing and logistics. His past projects include integrating RFID\, tracking and tracing systems\, assessing industrial information systems\, and designing digital solutions for industrial services. \n\n\n\nProf. McFarlane co-founded RedBite Solutions Ltd in 2006\, serving as Chairman (2006–2024). RedBite specializes in industrial RFID solutions and tracking systems. From March to July 2020\, he led a team that earned the President’s Special Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering for providing industrial engineering support to local hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. From September 2020 to July 2021\, he managed logistics for Cambridge University’s asymptomatic COVID-19 testing program for students. \n\n\n\nBetween 2018 and 2022\, Prof. McFarlane founded and led the Digital Manufacturing on a Shoestring program\, which investigated how low-cost and widely available digital technologies can improve productivity and sustainability in small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises. This project addressed a common issue: most commercial digital manufacturing solutions are designed primarily for large companies. The integration of AI with spatial data (GeoAI) offers significant potential for enhancing the accuracy\, efficiency\, and applicability of geospatial solutions\, contributing to advances in multiple domains\, including predictive analytics\, climate science\, and automation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCall for Participation\n\n\n\nIndividuals and teams are invited to contribute their ideas\, projects\, and expertise. The camp provides a platform for knowledge sharing\, discussion\, and collaboration. Participants are encouraged to present GeoAI-related initiatives\, challenges\, or innovative concepts that can benefit from collective development and refinement. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFormat\n\n\n\nThe event will begin with a 45-minute keynote focused on GeoAI and how it integrates with Generic AI and Large Language Models (LLMs). The expert workshop “Industry 4.0 Technologies and Their Impact on the Labour Market” at CIIRC CTU will focus on key questions related to the necessity of transforming the Czech economy and the readiness of industrial enterprises for technological changes. The current economic model of the Czech Republic\, based on utilizing skilled and relatively inexpensive labour\, has reached its limits.
