Modular manufacturing concepts enable the production process to be divided into individual\, automated production steps without manual programming or configuration. \n\n\n\nThe European research project RICAIP (Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Industrial Production) introduces a fully functional demonstrator that shows the fundamental principles of flexible production using a miniaturized production cell. The cooperative system\, which consists of two KUKA robots – one stationary and one mobile – autonomously dismantles various types of electric batteries\, replaces specific components\, and assembles still-usable battery modules into new units. These can be repurposed as large stationary batteries for households or businesses\, for example. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe demonstrator combines various AI technologies\, such as machine learning and computer vision\, with collaborative robotics\, network communication\, edge computing\, and classic automation technology. The centerpiece is the automatic planner\, developed by project partner CIIRC at the Czech Technical University in Prague. The planning software compares available resources with the machine functions and independently creates the production sequence – without manual programming or configuration. Moreover\, the planner is integrated in an industrial Manufacturing Execution System developed and operated by T-Mobile. \n\n\n\nThe modular structure of the robotic production cell\, the seamless integration of individual production machines\, and the dynamic\, machine-based rescheduling of production steps make this concept unique. The demonstrator serves as proof of concept for the automated retrofitting of multi-component products and can be transferred to different product types. \n\n\n\n\n\nMeet the Researchers\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPavel HradeckýTeam Leader\, Researcher RICAIP Testbed PragueCIIRC CTU \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJiří ŠtefanResearcher RICAIP Testbed PragueCIIRC CTU \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRICAIP Testbed for Industry 4.0\n\n\n\n\n\nTestbed is an experimental infrastructure of the RICAIP Industrial Testbed Core. SUMMARY:Beyond Zero: RICAIP Tackles Sustainability in Industry
DESCRIPTION:Screening of the Beyond Zero documentary and a panel discussion with representatives from local sustainable businesses\, as mentioned above. \n\n\n\nAt RICAIP\, innovation isn’t just about robotics and AI – it’s about shaping a responsible future. On June 3rd\, our RICAIP Testbed Brno team at CEITEC BUT is hosting a seminar – “Beyond Zero: Carbon Neutrality and Sustainability” – on a topic that reaches far beyond the technological aspect\, which is our usual prime. \n\n\n\nGet inspired for your journey to sustainability\, discuss carbon neutrality and practical solutions with representatives of companies that have been working on sustainability for several years\, and last but not least\, make new contacts. We will focus on practical and specific solutions\, ways of communicating within your company and your community\, and open up space for debate. \n\n\n\nThe program includes a screening of Beyond Zero\, a powerful documentary about Interface\, a U.S. carpet company that transformed its operations to become carbon neutral. Their story highlights the power of shared goals\, team spirit\, and visionary leadership. With the example of Interface as well as Czech sustainable businesses\, we will see that even seemingly impossible changes are achievable with the right mindset and commitment. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nProgram:\n\n\n\n\n8:30  Welcome\n\n\n\n9:00  Opening remarks\n\n\n\n9:15   Screening of Beyond Zero\n\n\n\n10:35 Discussion with guests\n\n\n\n11:30 Informal networking\n\n\n\n12:00 Closing remarks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFilm Beyond ZeroUSA\, 2020\, 82 minDirector: Nathan Havey\, Screenplay: Nathan HaveyThe documentary film Beyond Zero tells the story of the American company Interface (a carpet manufacturer) and its CEO Ray Anderson. Its journey to carbon neutrality took almost 30 years before the first carbon-neutral carpet was launched on the market. Sustainability requires strong leadership\, vision\, and employee involvement at all levels\, which is also what the film Beyond Zero is about. Due to the transition to sustainability\, the company created the Eco Dream Team\, a team of experts with various specializations. Together with the company’s employees\, they were able to develop innovations such as 100% recycled nylon yarn\, which is now used by brands such as Nike\, Levi’s\, and Stella McCartney. By reducing the amount of yarn used\, the company was also able to save enough energy each year to power 100 households for one year. Innovation has often been inspired by nature\, such as the structure of bird feathers. Since 1996\, when it set itself the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2020\, the company has reduced its carbon footprint by 96%\, waste production by 91% and water consumption by 88%. Interface’s current mission is to exceed its carbon neutrality goal and become carbon positive. We invite you to a themed breakfast. Start your day a little differently. Be inspired on your journey to sustainability\, discuss carbon neutrality and practical solutions with representatives of companies that have been committed to sustainability for several years\, and last but not least\, make new contacts. We will focus on practical and specific solutions\, ways of communicating within your company and your community\, and open up space for debate. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDiscussion on sustainability and carbon neutrality:\n\n\n\nModerator: Tomáš Svoboda\, Co-founder & CEO\, Sustainova \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLibor Musil\, Founder\, LIKO-S holding\, a.s.\n\n\n\nLIKO-S is a family-owned manufacturing and construction company based in Slavkov u Brna\, a leading supplier of living walls and green buildings. Its major projects include the LIKO-Vo building and the green façade of the Aupark shopping center. Unlike other hall buildings\, where hot air is heated to temperatures of up to 80 °C\, green buildings can reduce heat radiation and cool their surroundings by up to 10 °C. At the same time\, the greenery insulates the building\, reducing energy consumption in the winter months. \n\n\n\n“Conventional halls\, which are clad with standard materials\, generate enormous amounts of heat and act as radiators. What’s more\, construction in the Czech Republic degrades 10 hectares of land every day\, which ceases to retain water. Green buildings are able to eliminate these phenomena. In addition to their obvious aesthetic benefits and thermal insulation properties\, green areas on buildings also function as root wastewater treatment plants\,” points out L. Musil. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRadmila Svobodová\, Production Director\, Sonnentor s.r.o.\n\n\n\nSonnentor specializes in the production and sale of herbs\, teas\, and spices from organic farming. Thanks to its wide range of innovative products\, Sonnentor has gained international recognition and its products are exported to more than 50 countries. The company emphasizes ecological initiatives\, such as innovative eco-friendly packaging without the use of plastics and carbon-neutral operations. \n\n\n\n“Today\, we face a challenge that transcends individual companies and industries. We need innovations that not only solve problems but also help repair the damage we as humanity have caused. Nature shows us the way. It operates in a perfect cycle without waste\, uses energy with maximum efficiency\, and constantly regenerates itself. True innovation must be more than just progress—it must be the answer to the question of how to create a sustainable world.” R. Svobodová \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMiroslav Londýn\, Startup consultant specializing in sustainability and the circular economy\, studied molecular biology and genetics\, JIC\n\n\n\nJIC is an innovation agency founded in 2003 by the city of Brno together with the South Moravian Region and Brno universities. For more than 20 years\, it has been creating globally successful companies and actively caring for the innovation ecosystem. It has supported 1\,300 companies\, including Kiwi.com\, Y Soft\, Flowmon\, and Nenovision. \n\n\n\n“The issue is really very complex. Some people think that the solution is to maximize automation\, digitization\, and efficiency. Others are convinced that we need to take the path of degrowth. Some feel that the most important thing is to focus on ourselves and our experiences—and to limit our consumerist lifestyle. And some see the only possible way forward in innovation and technologies that will help us disconnect from mining and the like. And everything may be right.” M. London

SUMMARY:RICAIP Training: Automated Assembly Picking System for Cluttered Environments with Live Collision-Free Trajectory Planning
DESCRIPTION:RICAIP and ZeMA | Zentrum für Mechatronik und Automatisierungstechnik (Center for Mechatronics and Automation Technology GmbH) in Saarbrücken\, Germany\, are pleased to invite you to an online RICAIP Training on assembly-picking system. \n\n\n\nThis RICAIP event is solely for the research teams of RICAIP Partners (CIIRC CTU\, CEITEC BUT\, ZeMA\, DFKI and VSB TUO). \n\n\n\n\nRegister HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFocus\n\n\n\n\n\nIt requires sequence planning\, object detection\, pose estimation\, and trajectory planning. Given a general CAD model\, the existing ASAP (Automated Sequence Planning for complex Robotic Assembly with physical Feasibility) method generates a physically feasible assembly sequence. We have further optimised ASAP to address common structural challenges in LEGO assemblies. Then\, we address cluttered-bin detection challenges using a voting-based strategy that reduces false positives across varying point cloud scales. \n\n\n\n\n\nOur image processing method combines best-fit and iterative closest point (ICP) techniques\, enabling robust millimeter-level 3D localisation. Gripping points are identified for collision-free trajectories using the k–dimensional Tree (K-d Tree) and rapidly-exploring random trees (RRT) algorithms\, and verified via a digital twin before execution. The system is validated in a Lego assembly case and benchmarked against industrial tools. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIntroduction (Definition of the assembly system\, Challenge/Problem\, Main Process from ZeMA)\n\n\n\nAutonomous Assembly System: Overview and Concept\n\nCAD-based Assembly Sequence Planning\n\n\n\nSelf-developed Object Detection\n\n\n\n3D Pose Estimation\n\n\n\nCollision-Free Trajectory Planning\n\n\n\n\n\nEvaluation and Validation of the Concept\n\n\n\nConclusion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker\n\n\n\n\n\nXiaomei Xu\, M.Sc.RWTH \n\n\n\nResearch assistant at \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShort bio\n\n\n\nI have been working as a research assistant at ZeMA in the Robotics group since April 2020. In 2019\, I completed my master’s degree in Mechanical Automation Engineering from RWTH Aachen University and worked during my thesis on the iCellFactory project at the WZL Machine Tool Laboratory to focus on industrial robot path planning and digital twin simulation. \n\n\n\nDuring my studies\, I completed various internships\, e.g. at the VW Academy Hannover where I supported the set-up and roll-out of the VWN Campus Digitalization and supervised workshops as well as at the Jülich Forschungzentrum in the field of metal stressing and shaping. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMy research interests include the application of 3D camera technology in the industrial field to improve object recognition and 3D pose estimation under the bin-picking challenge. A fully assembled product is randomly scanned using a 3D camera\, resulting in the reconstruction of its CAD model. Extending beyond bin picking systems\, I continue to advance research on self-developed object detection tools and collision-free trajectory planning\, supported by digital twin technology in live processes. By integrating an autonomous bin picking system with automated assembly sequence planning\, this framework evolves into a fully functional assembly picking system \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\nRegistration is now closed. We want visitors to leave with practical inspiration and a clear idea of how to implement these technologies in their operations.”Pavel Burget\, Director of the RICAIP Testbed Prague\, CIIRC CTU \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat have we prepared for our joint stand with the National Center for Industry 4.0 and other partners? Everything can be summed up in four words: trends\, innovation\, sustainability\, accessibility. \n\n\n\n\nTRENDS: We are transferring AI and tech trends into manufacturing practice. At the stand\, you will see demonstrations of digital twins\, artificial intelligence\, and 3D scanning for rapid adaptation of robotic handling\, automation\, and autonomous production control.\n\n\n\nINNOVATION: Our comprehensive professional solutions are the engine of innovation\, connecting technologies and approaches into a single scalable whole (AI\, robotics\, sensors\, machine vision\, data platforms\, localization using 5G networks\, etc.).\n\n\n\nSUSTAINABILITY: By optimizing production\, we ensure energy sustainability and cost savings. You will see real-time energy consumption monitoring right at the stand. We will show you examples of savings in practice – from production lines to automated beer taps.\n\n\n\nACCESSIBILITY: We make cutting-edge technologies available to companies of all sizes and technological maturity. We will introduce you to examples of how even small and medium-sized enterprises benefit from modern technologies thanks to subsidy schemes such as EDIH CTU or TEF/AI-MATTERS. This opens up a wide range of opportunities for businesses\, which gain access to infrastructure\, expertise\, and tailor-made services\, all on the platform and technological “playground” of the RICAIP Testbed Prague.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEnergy Zone\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive: Energy & Water Consumption Measurement\nThe future of manufacturing is smart and sustainable – and data is the key. Effective data collection and processing for automation and production optimization is a topic that CIIRC CTU teams have been working on for a long time from various aspects of production. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTech Zone\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFocus on AI\, Digital Twins\, and 5G Networks\nFrom RICAIP Testbed Prague\, we have prepared a demonstration of flexible production control in cooperation with T-Mobile and their T-Process Platform system\, and an advanced demonstration of collaborative robotics. Visitors will also see the use of the most advanced AI methods for automatic reconstruction of objects in the industrial metaverse and robotic manipulation \n\n\n\n\n\n\nInnovation Zone\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nComplex Innovation Consultancy\nExperts will advise on how to implement innovations\, finance them\, and adapt them to the specific needs of a company. The CIIRC CTU team involved in initiatives such as RICAIP\, EDIH CTU\, AI-MATTERS/TEF\, or AIRISE will be ready to consult specific company requirements for the development and testing of new solutions and the introduction of AI into production – thanks to dozens of projects already carried out and delivered. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nParticular RICAIP Demonstrators\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSmart measurement of energy and water consumption\n\n\n\nIn the Energy Zone of the RICAIP Testbed at MSV 2025\, we will show how smart measurement and analysis of energy and water consumption can make operations more efficient and environmentally friendly. Visitors will be able to see this for themselves thanks to a compact modular 5G IIoT system that integrates real-time energy consumption data across the entire exhibition\, as well as Narrowband (NB) IoT technology. This technology is suitable for battery operation and will be presented at the stand using the example of an ultrasonic flow meter for measuring water consumption.Data is transmitted via a 5G SA private campus network\, including continuous monitoring of 5G signal quality. All this in real time\, right at the stand. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobotic Cell for Flexible Production\n\n\n\nAt our stand\, we will demonstrate how production can respond flexibly to changing conditions – in our case\, on a scaled-down model of an autonomous modular factory represented by two KUKA collaborative robots. This is a clear demonstration of the main principles of modern\, flexible\, and sustainable production. The robotic cell automatically adapts to the type of module according to the manufacturer’s “recipe\,” which contains all the necessary steps and tools. Thanks to dynamic smart planning using AI\, sequences of tasks are generated automatically\, without the need to reprogram the robots. This approach saves time and money and paves the way for more easily reconfigurable manufacturing processes. The solution is also integrated into T-Mobile’s T-Process Platform\, enabling its practical use in industry. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobotic Tap System\n\n\n\nThe robotic tap is a traditional and indispensable part of the stand. It is no coincidence that this year it will be located in the Energy Zone\, because it is not only a technological gadget\, but also a comprehensive solution that will demonstrate full automation in practice and will also serve to collect data for effective operation management. In this case\, data on energy consumption\, but also on temperature\, flow rate\, and the amount of beer dispensed. Our robotic beer tap is fully prepared for continuous unattended operation. Anytime\, anywhere. It can tap four beers at once and is equipped with AI that allows it to adapt to its surroundings and optimize energy consumption. Thanks to feedback from sensors\, it can actively adapt the movements of the robot that taps the beer. Advanced data analytics intelligently control cooling and prevent malfunctions. This tap represents a cutting-edge solution for sustainable and smart management using the latest technologies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCollaborative robots as you (don’t) know them: Industrial precision for rehabilitation\n\n\n\nVersatility\, flexibility\, and scalability are the basis of research at RICAIP Testbed Prague. Cobots have their roots in industry: they measure and dispense force\, respond to changes in the environment\, and perform sensitive tasks thanks to precise control. A new type of robot\, which is being prepared for next year\, adds higher safety features and advanced control\, so we can safely deploy it outside of industry\, for example in healthcare—an area we are currently focusing on because we see great potential in it. Therefore\, the same principles allow the robot to be reprogrammed and\, instead of precisely assembling components in a production line\, the same system can be used in rehabilitation programs\, for example. \n\n\n\nAt our booth\, we are showing a virtual reality car driving simulator: exercise becomes a game that motivates patients and helps them regain the range of motion in their joints and the fine motor skills needed for driving. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDigiStage: Conference Program\n\n\n\nThe Digital Factory invites you to DigiStage – a program packed with demonstrations of the latest trends and examples of best practices in Industry 4.0. SUMMARY:RICAIP Session: Highly flexible production and logistics facilities in resilient value chains – from data rooms to adaptive manufacturing systems
DESCRIPTION:RICAIP and ZeMA | Zentrum für Mechatronik und Automatisierungstechnik (Center for Mechatronics and Automation Technology GmbH) in Saarbrücken\, Germany\, are pleased to invite you to an online RICAIP session on highly flexible production and logistics facilities in resilient value chains. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis presentation focuses on key technologies and strategies for creating resilient value chains in an increasingly complex and volatile business environment. The focus is on highly flexible production and logistics facilities that enable manufacturing networks to respond quickly and efficiently to disruptions\, adapt to changing market conditions and\, at the same time\, integrate sustainable principles of the circular economy. \n\n\n\nThe presentation will showcase innovative approaches to data-driven value networks based on international standards such as the Asset Administration Shell (AAS)\, data rooms and federated data ecosystems. Practical examples demonstrate how companies can not only increase their resilience to supply chain disruptions by making their production systems more flexible\, but also secure their long-term competitiveness. \n\n\n\nAgenda \n\n\n\n\nIntroduction: Resilience in value creation networks – challenges and opportunities\n\n\n\nFlexibility and adaptability as success factors – concepts and enablers\n\n\n\nData spaces and digital twins for adaptive production – technological fundamentals\n\n\n\nAsset Administration Shell (AAS) and standardised interoperability\n\n\n\nFlexible production systems – architecture and implementation\n\n\n\nAdaptive logistics systems in regional and global networks\n\n\n\nCircular economy integration – sustainable manufacturing practices\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker \n\n\n\nProf. Dr.-Ing. Florian Mohr \n\n\n\nFlorian Mohr is a professor at Trier University of Applied Sciences at the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus. His research focuses on production management and logistics\, with a particular emphasis on data spaces\, the circular economy and applied AI for the circular economy. He develops data-driven ecosystems in which highly flexible production and logistics facilities are linked to digital platforms and real-time data to create resilient value creation networks. \n\n\n\nA central aspect of his work is decentralised structures for fair\, distributed AI training suitable for SMEs. Instead of relying on centralised data centres\, he is researching federated and distributed learning approaches in which data remains local and only models or gradients are exchanged. This preserves data privacy\, reduces the concentration of technological power and makes it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to access AI-supported solutions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn the GreenFab project\, he is working on sustainable\, circular factory concepts that focus on AI-supported production planning\, intelligent reverse logistics and the extension of product life cycles. In his teaching\, Mohr integrates these topics into project-based formats in order to prepare students for data-driven\, sustainable industrial environments in a practical manner and to qualify them for the design of future-proof value creation networks. \n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \nI have read and I agree to the processing of personal data as stated HERE \n\n \n\n Δ

SUMMARY:AI – smart but sexist? Pull the plug on gender bias
DESCRIPTION:RICAIP and DFKI in Saarbrücken\, Germany\, are pleased to invite you to an online RICAIP session on gender bias in AI. \n\n\n\nDiscrimination\, especially also gender bias\, are social problems. But what does it mean for the AI era of AI? What impact might it have in the future? \n\n\n\nThis talk sheds light on the role of gender bias\, diversity in AI and how AI systems become discriminating. The types of bias are discussed because\, if we know how they creep into AI and other software systems\, we can also do something about them. A framework is then presented to help us all work towards having „fair by design“ AI systems around us – both in our professional and personal lives. Last but not least\, some advice is given on how you can promote fairness within your sphere of influence.   \n\n\n\n\nRegister here\n\n\n\nSlides in the PDF\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\n\nAI\, gender\, and the future\n\n\n\nWhere do we stand with AI and gender bias at present?\n\n\n\nBias types\n\n\n\nFramework for „fairness by design“\n\n\n\nKey points for „fairness by you“\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\nDr. Kinga Schumacher \n\n\n\nDr. Kinga Schumacher studied computer science in Mannheim and completed her Phd in the field of artificial intelligence at the University of Potsdam.
