The latest advancements in the field of artificial intelligence also influence other related sectors such as logistics.  \n\n\n\n\n\nHow far advanced are the two neighbouring countries with the implementation of Industry 4.0?What can we learn from each other in this regard? Is the current automation an opportunity or a threat to jobs? And how will all these changes affect the people involved? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTilman BeckerDirector of the Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Industrial Production (RICAIP)Tilman Becker is a researcher and expert in the field of Industry 4.0. Since 2020\, he is the director of the RICAIP Centre for Advanced Industrial Production at the Czech Institute of Informatics\, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU) in Prague. With 25 years of experience at DFKI\, Germany’s largest artificial intelligence research centre\, he has a broad knowledge of digital transformation\, natural language processing\, cyber-physical manufacturing systems and human-machine interaction research. \n\n\n\n\n\nLucie TrlifajováResearcher at the Institute of Sociology\, Czech Academy of SciencesLucie Trlifajová graduated from Charles University. She is an anthropologist and analyst of social policies at the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences and at the Centre for Social Issues SPOT. In her research\, she focuses mainly on poverty\, inequality\, changes in the labour market\, social security\, and other related topics such as precarious work or indebtedness. Very often we face problem shifting where solutions that improve or solve a targeted problem unintentionally create new problems of environmental\, economic or social nature somewhere else in the systems affected by our choice. \n\n\n\nLife Cycle Assessment (LCA) shows all the potential impact of our choices\, through the analysis of the whole life cycle of the system or product that is the object of the study and it covers a broad range of potential impacts for which it attempts to perform a quantitative assessment.   \n\n\n\n\n\nScientists or science managers who develop decision support\, or make decisions where sustainability is a concern\, should understand the need to view the solutions in a life cycle perspective and to consider possible trade-offs between environmental impacts and between the three sustainability dimensions.  \n\n\n\nRenewable energy technologies are often improperly flagged as “green” in different media. However\, this denomination often only holds when they are considered solely in their use stage and mainly in relation to climate change impacts. Renewables have important environmental impacts outside their use/operation stage\, e.g. production. Therefore\, when taking the whole life cycle of renewables-based energy systems\, one may demonstrate that they are “greener” than fossil-based energy systems\, but they are not free of any environmental impacts. In the second part of this talk we will consider this secondary\, but important aspect of the life cycle of any energy generation system\, from extraction of materials for construction to decommissioning and disposal of any power plant. \n\n\n\n\n\n10:30 –  10:45 Coffee break \n\n\n\n\n\n10:45 – 11:30  \n\n\n\nTALK: Sustainable Means Circular – Key Principles to Implement in the Accelerating Green Transition \n\n\n\nMiroslav Londýn Start-up Consultant and Consultant for Business and Sustainability\, JIC \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlobally\, our current economy is linear – when creating products\, the approach is Take-Make-Use-Lose. We take materials and energy from our environment and manufacture products from them. The results are then sold to customers and when the life cycle ends\, waste is generated. There are two main issues with this. It’s highly ineffective – lot of resources\, money and value are getting lost in the process. The second one is that it’s very unsustainable – resources get depleted and we’re already running out of them\, and the amount of unutilized waste is growing immensely. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe solution is transitioning to circular economy\, where the created value and attained resources are used as effectively\, and as long as possible. With respect to our environmental\, social and economic needs. This means exploring new business models\, stretching the lifetime of products\, using waste as a resource\, or taking advantage of digital technologies. Above all\, it means great interdisciplinary cooperation and advancement of knowledge and innovation. Science and engineering\, as well as public sector and local communities\, play a crucial role in this. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n11:30 – 12:15  \n\n\n\nTALK: Eco-design and Innovative Materials as a Way to Sustainable Products\n\n\n\nEliška Knotková CEO\, Eco-Design Studio Balance is Motion \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEcodesign can be defined as the systematic consideration of the environmental aspect during product design and development. The goal is to create solutions whose environmental impacts are as small as possible across the entire life cycle of a given product. At the same time\, the environmental factor must be balanced with functional\, technological\, aesthetic and economic aspects. The lecture will present possible strategies and principles that can be applied in ecodesign – such as modularity\, biomimicry\, design for repairability\, emotional durability and more. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe materials used can significantly affect the environmental impacts associated with the entire life cycle of products. SUMMARY:HANNOVER MESSE 2022 - Hall 2\, C39\, DFKI Main Stand
DESCRIPTION:After two years as a purely digital offering\, Hannover Messe is back as an in-presence event\, from May 30 to June 2\, 2022. DFKI will feature industrial AI in medicine and Healthcare. The RICAIP centre will be presented on the DFKI Main Stand by DFKI and ZeMA which will demonstrate a collaborative robotic arm that a person can intuitively control from a distance via a virtual reality headset in real-time.  \n\n\n\nMore information on the DFKI website and also in the form of press release. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDFKI presents industry topics such as production cells as digital twins\, virtual teach-in in human-robot collaboration\, assistance systems for humans in production\, resilience management for global companies\, and more value creation through data products. The second area of focus is AI in medicine. The research areas of the DFKI Lübeck branch will demonstrate how artificial intelligence can help with tumor segmentation\, the control of prostheses\, or the optimization of imaging procedures. The topics of social simulation of a pandemic\, deep learning for individualized fixation implants\, and data analysis for predicting critical conditions of intensive care patients reinforce the emphasis on medicine and health. \n\n\n\nVisitors can find DFKI’s exhibits and technologies at the main DFKI stand in Hall 2\, Booth C39\, the Saarland Joint Stand\, Hall 2\, Booth B28\, the FabOS Stand\, Hall 5\, Booth F54\, and at the SmartFactory technology initiative in Hall 8\, Booth D18. \n\n\n\nExhibit descriptions in detail – Hall 2\, C39\, DFKI Main Stand \n\n\n\nRICAIP – Virtual Reality-based Remote Human-Robot Collaboration in Assembly\n\n\n\n\n\nSupplied by additional sensors\, the digital twin of a production cell becomes the input interface for a robotic teach-in of the real world: As partners in the RICAIP Research and Innovation Centre on Advanced Industrial Production\, DFKI and ZeMA demonstrate a collaborative robotic arm that a person can intuitively control from a distance via a virtual reality headset in real-time. The technologically complex scenario enables close interaction between distant locations and can also be used for remote maintenance or remote manufacturing. \n\n\n\n\n\nRICAIP is a distributed international research center of excellence with a research focus on robotics and artificial intelligence.
