Research focus: Digital twins, robotics and 6D pose estimation from RGB(D) cameras

Working as a research programmer at Testbed, I get to work on a variety of interesting projects from both the science and the industry. This interesting mix of possibilities results in greatly broadening of horizons and growing my set of skills even outside of school.

For the past year, I have been working on an EV battery cell decomposition and recycling factory digital twin. Ever since completing the project, I have been working on my diploma thesis revolving around digital twins, robotics and 6D pose estimation from RGB(D) cameras.

Would you have any piece of good advice for students?

Think about the direction you want to be headed and keep an eye on that. It doesn’t mean you have to end up in there, however, wandering around without a goal doesn’t do a whole lot of good for anyone. It’s way better to work towards something and redirect when in need. Let the goals define the steps and motivations for you.

Where are you headed next?

As of right now, I focus on successfully finishing my studies. After that, there is a plethora of possibilites for me to choose from, however, staying at the Testbed 4.0 for some more time has been a personal favorite. Let’s see if there is any future for me in academics research. :
