Researchers’ Night
September 27 All day
The basic variable of the world is transformation. From evolution in nature to revolution in technology. Everything around us goes through its transformation and development. Let’s turn one night of the year into a unique celebration of science together! Visit our RICAP Testbed Prague at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics at the Technical University in Prague, which will again this year be open to all the Researchers’ Night participants with a rich program.
What is Researchers’ Night?
Researchers’ Night was initiated by the European Commission in 2005 and its mission is to show that science is not boring, but on the contrary is a source of interesting and fascinating phenomena. One day a year, universities, research and development centres, science centres, and other places open with free guided tours, popular education presentations, workshops, experiments, science shows, music, and performances, amongst others, taking place. The aim of Researchers’ Night is to dispel myths about scientists as people locked in laboratories and to show the general public that they are “ordinary people” who do work for each of us, they can present it in an engaging way, and they can also have a good time.
What kind of programme can you look forward to at RICAIP Testbed Prague?
Voice Command Robotic Assistance
Voice command robotic assistance represents a technology where a robot can recognize and perform tasks solely based on human voice commands. This technology combines advanced speech recognition algorithms and machine learning, enabling the robot to respond accurately and reliably to instructions.
How does this technology work?
- Voice Recognition: The robot is equipped with microphones and speech recognition software that can analyze and interpret human voice commands.
- Object Manipulation: Thanks to sophisticated sensors and gripping mechanisms, the robot can safely and efficiently handle various objects.
- Assembly Assistance: The robot can assist in the construction of products, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of the manufacturing process.
CTU Space Research Rocket
The CTU Space Research student team operates across all faculties of the Czech Technical University (CTU) and is engaged in the development and construction of competitive scientific rockets. The students are responsible for developing the largest civilian rocket in the Czech Republic, named Illustria. Working in a team allows students to transform their theoretical knowledge into reality and tangible results, thus supporting their professional development.
Automatic Pallet Truck
Come discover our ongoing project, the Automatic Pallet Truck, which exemplifies technological transformation. This innovative robot can autonomously find a pallet of bricks, load it, and transport it to any location—entirely without human intervention.
Our truck is already successfully operating in automatic mode, representing another step in transforming traditional industrial processes towards fully autonomous solutions. Come see how robotic navigation and advanced technologies are reshaping our future and find out what else awaits us in this field.
Transformation in Nature – Measuring Radioactive Decay
Come try measuring and detecting the radioactive transformation of one isotope into another. During this activity, we will focus on the natural radioactive decay of isotopes that we can commonly find around us—at home, in the garden, or even in the forest. Our experts will show you how these isotopes are measured and what they tell us about the natural processes occurring all around us.
What to expect?
- Measurement and detection of the radioactive decay of naturally occurring isotopes
- Interesting demonstrations of where we can find these isotopes
- Explanation of the principle of radioactive transformation and its significance in the natural sciences
Aging Suit
Transformation is one of the most important processes that each of us undergoes. Whether it involves physical changes, psychological growth, or gaining new experiences, transformation is an inseparable part of our lives. This year’s Night of Scientists, themed “Transformation,” will focus on various aspects of this journey of the human body. One of the main activities that you definitely shouldn’t miss is the “Aging Suit.”
What is the “Aging Suit”?
The “Aging Suit” is a unique simulator that allows you to experience what it is like to have the body of an older person. Specially designed clothing and devices will help you better understand the physical limitations and challenges that older individuals face daily. This experience will provide you with a deeper insight into the aging process and allow you to experience transformation firsthand.
Robobar at RICAIP Testbed Prague – Transformation in Gastronomy – Try Our Robotic Bar
As part of our activity, you can personally experience what it’s like to be served by a robot. Our ROBOBAR will prepare drinks and dispense non-alcoholic beer without any human intervention. You have a unique opportunity to evaluate whether this transformation in gastronomy will become a reality in the near future.
What to expect?
- Experience being served by a robotic bar
- Opportunity to reflect on where humans can be replaced by robots
- Discussion about current and future trends in automation
Tetris Evolutionary Algorithms – Come Play a Game with Us
Are you interested in the mysteries of artificial intelligence and would like to see how advanced algorithms can solve complex problems? Come to the Night of Scientists, where our team will demonstrate the power of nature-inspired genetic algorithms through a fun and interactive computer game. Will you beat artificial intelligence in solving the traveling salesman problem, where, as a delivery driver, you will seek the shortest possible route for delivering goods?
Dive into a world where technology mimics nature, revealing incredible possibilities for solving seemingly insurmountable problems. Get inspired and discover how these technologies can change our world. We look forward to seeing you!
Augmented Reality
Come experience augmented reality firsthand! This technology, commonly known for displaying holograms, allows us to control robotic workstations, such as robotic 3D printing, polishing by robots, or guiding robots to precise positions. Augmented reality simplifies operators’ work and opens entirely new possibilities for interaction between humans and machines.
Come be inspired and discover how these technologies are transforming the future. We look forward to seeing you!
Robotic Checkers – Play Checkers with a Robot – Will You Win?
Come play checkers with a robot at the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the robot can predict moves several steps ahead and choose the best one.
The system uses a camera and computer vision to determine the current state of the game board. Based on this information, the robot uses artificial intelligence to analyze all possible game moves and predict which one will be the best for achieving victory. Designed with modern industrial technology, the robotic checkers game is user-friendly, robust, and safe for interaction. This is achieved through collaborative robotics, ensuring that the robot can safely cooperate with people. The game offers three levels of difficulty, adapting to different skill levels of players, from beginners to experienced players.
The robotic checkers game is designed with an emphasis on safety, allowing you to interact with the robot face-to-face without worry. This is possible due to collaborative robotics, ensuring that the robot safely collaborates with humans. Plus, you can choose from three levels of difficulty. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced player, the robot is ready for the challenge.
Come see how the future is changing not only the way we play games but also how we interact with technology.
Drive an RC CAR via Teleoperation
Teleoperation is a fascinating application in robotics that allows for remote control of a robot, applicable in space exploration, hazardous environments, healthcare, and manufacturing. In the context of Industry 4.0, teleoperation enables smart factories to maintain and monitor remote factories without needing to visit them. We present a small game where the operator controls an RC car using a toy steering wheel. You will notice a short response time and better performance when changing the communication technology from WiFi to 5G.
NAO Robot
You are surely familiar with the NAO robot, which you may have seen last year at the Night of Scientists. Unlike last year, its conversation will be more natural, with gestures and sticking to the topic. Come see what new tricks NAO can do—maybe even dance for you. Do you want to ask our robots something? Come to the Night of Scientists on September 27 at CIIRC.
Children’s Game – Nice Prizes from CIIRC
We haven’t forgotten about our younger visitors! We invite parents and children to the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics, and Cybernetics. Pick up a competition card at the CIIRC entrance and collect stamps for completed activities. After filling out the competition sheet, nice prizes await you!
