RICAIP Session: Highly flexible production and logistics facilities in resilient value chains – from data rooms to adaptive manufacturing systems

February 24 | 13:30 15:00 UTC+1

RICAIP and ZeMA | Zentrum für Mechatronik und Automatisierungstechnik (Center for Mechatronics and Automation Technology GmbH) in Saarbrücken, Germany, are pleased to invite you to an online RICAIP Training on highly flexible production and logistics facilities in resilient value chains.

This RICAIP event is solely for the research teams of RICAIP Partners (CIIRC CTU, CEITEC BUT, ZeMA, DFKI and VSB TUO).

This presentation focuses on key technologies and strategies for creating resilient value chains in an increasingly complex and volatile business environment. The focus is on highly flexible production and logistics facilities that enable manufacturing networks to respond quickly and efficiently to disruptions, adapt to changing market conditions and, at the same time, integrate sustainable principles of the circular economy.

The presentation will showcase innovative approaches to data-driven value networks based on international standards such as the Asset Administration Shell (AAS), data rooms and federated data ecosystems. Practical examples demonstrate how companies can not only increase their resilience to supply chain disruptions by making their production systems more flexible, but also secure their long-term competitiveness.

Agenda

  • Introduction: Resilience in value creation networks – challenges and opportunities
  • Flexibility and adaptability as success factors – concepts and enablers
  • Data spaces and digital twins for adaptive production – technological fundamentals
  • Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and standardised interoperability
  • Flexible production systems – architecture and implementation
  • Adaptive logistics systems in regional and global networks
  • Circular economy integration – sustainable manufacturing practices

About the Speaker

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Florian Mohr

Florian Mohr is a professor at Trier University of Applied Sciences at the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus. His research focuses on production management and logistics, with a particular emphasis on data spaces, the circular economy and applied AI for the circular economy. He develops data-driven ecosystems in which highly flexible production and logistics facilities are linked to digital platforms and real-time data to create resilient value creation networks.

A central aspect of his work is decentralised structures for fair, distributed AI training suitable for SMEs. Instead of relying on centralised data centres, he is researching federated and distributed learning approaches in which data remains local and only models or gradients are exchanged. This preserves data privacy, reduces the concentration of technological power and makes it easier for small and medium-sized enterprises to access AI-supported solutions.

In the GreenFab project, he is working on sustainable, circular factory concepts that focus on AI-supported production planning, intelligent reverse logistics and the extension of product life cycles. In his teaching, Mohr integrates these topics into project-based formats in order to prepare students for data-driven, sustainable industrial environments in a practical manner and to qualify them for the design of future-proof value creation networks.
