To celebrate the 99th anniversary of the founding of the independent Czechoslovak state, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Berlin organized a reception on October 26, 2017 with the support and participation of the South Moravian Region.
In his introductory speech to the guests, Ambassador Tomáš Jan Podivínský emphasized that we are entering the jubilee centenary since the founding of independent Czechoslovakia, during which we will commemorate the most important moments and personalities that contributed to the establishment of a democratic state, including the first Czechoslovak president, Tomáš Garrigue. Masaryk, a native of the South Moravian town of Hodonín.
This year, the South Moravian Region took part in the celebration of the national holiday in Berlin and this year, foreign guests had the opportunity to get to know another of the various parts of the Czech Republic. The Governor of South Moravia, Bohumil Šimek, presented the region as an area where historical tradition mixes with modern art, architecture and technology and which offers a strong background for business opportunities, science and research. The guests themselves were also able to see for themselves thanks to the accompanying program – a wine tasting from South Moravian vineyards, dulcimer music and an exhibition on Brno’s “Bauhaus” architecture.
