As 2024 is drawing to a close, let us look back at some of the successful and happy moments of the year 2024 for RICAIP Partners, which all brought new ideas and opportunities. RICAIP Testbeds

BRNO INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING FAIR

ACTIVITIES OF RICAIP TESTBEDS WITHIN THE AI MATTERS PROJECT

Thanks to the TEF initiative and the European AI-MATTERS network, companies can take advantage of advanced industrial testbeds at leading technical universities in Prague, Brno, and Ostrava under exceptional conditions.

In the Czech Republic, a budget of CZK 200 million (€8 mil.) from European and national sources has been earmarked for these purposes, which companies can draw on in the coming years for highly professional services.

High Level Visits

VISIT OF DR. JAYANT JAGTAP (NIMS UNIVERSITY)

Dr. Jayant Jagtap, Associate Professor of Robotics and Cybernetics from the NIMS University visited RICAIP Testbed Prague following the visit of Prof. Ing. Vladimír Mařík, RICAIP PI and Scientific Director of CIIRC CTU at the NIMS University (Jaipur, India), along with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, and the signature of a MoU establishing a Czech-Indian digital partnership in innovation.

NIMS University is currently building the Marik Institute of Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning where Prof. Marik is the Honorary Director.

VISIT OF A DELEGATION FROM JAPANESE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

We had the honor of welcoming Prof. Dr. Yoichiro Matsumoto, a leading figure in science diplomacy and Professor Emeritus at the Tokyo University of Science, along with the Japanese Embassy representatives.

Together with our researchers from RICAIP Testbed Prague, the guests had the opportunity to get an in-depth look at the latest technologies in AI-driven manufacturing.

AI AWARDS 2024 – Tomáš Mikolov 

In November 2024, Tomáš Mikolov won the Lifetime Achievement award, one of the six categories at this year’s AI Awards event organized by the Czech National AI Platform (prg.ai, Brno.AI, CzechInvest…).

NEURIPS 2023 TEST OF TIME AWARD – Tomáš Mikolov

In December 2023, Tomáš Mikolov had already received the Test of Time award for his long-term contribution to machine learning research for his publication co-authored with I. Sutskever, K. Chen, G. Corrado, J. Dean, published in 2013 and cited more than 40,000 times.

CVPR 2024 BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD – Torsten Sattler

Torsten Sattler , along with his team, presented 3 different papers. One of them, co-authored by Zehao Yu, Anpei Chen, Binbin Huang, Andreas Geiger and Torsten himself, won one of the two best student paper awards.

CICM 2024 BEST PAPER AWARD – Mikoláš Janota

Mikoláš received the Best Paper award at the Conference on Intelligent Computer Mathematics 2024, which took place in Montreal from August 5th to August 9th, 2024, for his paper co-authored by J. Jakubův, M. Janota, and J. Urban.

OTHER CONFERENCES

IDESSAI Summer School

RICAIP co-organised the 2024 edition of the IDESSAI Summer School along with DFKI and INRIA. The five-day program attracted researchers, postdocs, and students focused on AI and robotics from across Europe.

Several of our researchers from RICAIP Testbed Prague and RICAIP Testbed Brno attended, actively contributing by sharing knowledge on human-robot collaboration and advanced industrial applications. 

RICAIP also introduced its distributed infrastructure with the RICAIP Day, part of Track B, where participants had the opportunity to engage in hands-on workshops and explore multi-robot system simulations, but also to attend a lecture offered by Martin Suda, one of our Tenure Track holders.
